Born as long trousers on paper; the scissors decided on shorts. Extra large, not worn — it rests on the shoulders and hovers around the waist.
In the sketch they were long trousers, pleated to the floor. Then the piece changed its mind — or I changed it for it — and the scissors stopped at the knee: shorts. This short isn’t worn — it lands. It rests on the shoulders by its suspenders and hovers around the waist, covering the obvious and freeing the rest. The question stops being what size do you wear? and becomes where does the piece begin?.
Hovering takes engineering: all the weight lives in the suspenders, so the anchoring is coat construction, not short construction — reinforcements where nobody sees them, seams that take the swing. The horizontal pleats, inherited from the trousers that no longer exist, give the fabric structure so it doesn’t collapse without a body holding it. The AI did the maths on the proportions — at what height hovering turns into falling; the right answer is the one that got sewn.
